Business is Personal

How Getting Married Reinforced My Belief in Work-Life Integration

I think most of us have realized by now that the role of work in our lives has fundamentally changed.

Long gone are the days when our work and personal lives were two separate and disconnected worlds. Even the focus on work-life balance – which views work and life as separate but connected – is on its way out.

Instead, in both my own experience and the experience of many I’ve spoken with, the era of work-life integration has arrived. We are whole and complete humans who are living our lives at all times. Work is life. Home is life. Travel is life. Hobbies are life. It’s all just life.

I’ve witnessed clients welcome the birth of their children and consoled colleagues after a loss in their families. The joy and sorrow I felt for them in those moments were indistinguishable from the very same emotions I’ve shared with family and friends.

My clients are a part of my life. My colleagues are a part of my life. You are part of my life.

Which is why I am overjoyed to share a significant update in my own life.

This past weekend, my partner Joe and I got married!

The wedding was truly magical, and the love and support we received from our family and friends was truly overwhelming.

And as I reflect on the people who celebrated with us – both in person and from afar – I can’t help but recognize how blurry the lines between our work and personal relationships can be. Joe’s coworkers are some of our closest friends. My business partners, coworkers, and colleagues across the three businesses I’ve run have become family to me. My father, who owned his own business, has always been a mentor to me both in life and business.

These people aren’t part of our work lives or personal lives. They are simply part of our lives.

It’s why I care so much about helping people scale their businesses. Because when a client comes to me wanting to grow their business while also raising a young family, it’s never about focusing on one at the expense of the other. It’s about creating a vehicle that’s both fun and fulfilling to drive and supports their lifestyle and the people they care about most.

That’s exactly what business has done for me, and I wish the same for you.

So if you’re ever feeling like things are a little off-kilter, and you’re seeking more from your business so that you can live a whole and fulfilling life, please reach out. I’m here to help.
